About the CEO and Founder of Light for Health
Linaya Hahn started researching PMS (premenstrual syndrome) in the early 1980s after she realized that she wasn’t crazy and “only” had severe PMS. She soon discovered that she was not alone in seeking to understand and heal her PMS but the medical community was only beginning to recognize PMS. The doctors she consulted were unable help so she started reading the latest books and journals.
After serving briefly as manager and PMS counselor at a women's health center in suburban Chicago, Ms. Hahn founded the PMS Holistic Center of Illinois in 1985. Once she understood PMS, doctors and friends referred women to her. She has since helped thousands of women and their families heal from PMS and its related conditions.
Ms. Hahn was a Licensed Nutrition Counselor (LNC) in Illinois. She has addressed the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and an international PMS symposia on "A Multidisciplinary Approach to PMS." She is a Founding Member of the Dalton Society, the international organization for PMS research, education, diagnosis, and treatment. She wrote Identifying the Etiologies of Physiologically-Based Mood Disorders and their Clinical Implications which was published in the peer-reviewed journal, Women and Therapy, Volume 12 Numbers 1/2, 1992.
A nationally recognized expert on PMS, menopause, and full spectrum light, Linaya is known for her multidisciplinary approach to health and her depth of knowledge on full spectrum light and its effects on health. She is a frequent radio and television guest and has been featured in news articles around the world.
Ms. Hahn founded Light for Health, an international full spectrum light company, in 1989. She has learned that every wavelength of light is necessary for full health. Light affects every function in the body, from our immune system function, the calcium in our teeth and bones, to emotions and alertness, and enzyme and endocrine production.
Ms. Hahn is one of the foremost holistic health practitioners in the United States. She is author of PMS: Solving the Puzzle, which discusses sixteen causes of premenstrual syndrome and what to do about them. It is the state-of-the-art book on PMS and #1 on amazon.com. Improper light is one of the four main causes of premenstrual syndrome. The PMS Holistic Center, which she started in 1985, became Hahn Holistic Health Centers.
Ms. Hahn has addressed the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, been invited to present her lights at the American Board of Holistic Medicine annual meeting, been published in peer-reviewed journals, and is regularly cited and interviewed on radio, TV, newspapers, magazines, and the web. She was a Licensed Nutrition Counselor in Illinois.
Ms. Hahn holds a magna cum laude Bachelor of Arts degree from Washburn University and has done post-graduate work in psychology, nutrition and light, and business. In addition to her work with premenstrual syndrome, she has compiled the definitive research book on full spectrum light, Light for Health Reference Binder. Her company's main site is www.LightForHealth.com. Its information and research on light and health can be found at www.LightStudies.info.
As a former school board member and president, Ms. Hahn is very excited about the impact of full spectrum lighting in schools. The Department of Education of Alberta, Canada, conducted a two-year study of five different kinds of light. Under full spectrum light (not standard cool white fluorescents) students were calmer, more alert, and cooperated better. They learned faster, tested higher, grew faster, had 1/3 fewer absences due to illness, and had 2/3rd fewer cavities than expected.
Light for Health is committed to leading the change in lighting in all environments – school, work and home.
In 1997 she founded the Franklin Hahn Holistic Health Foundation. Its Mission is to improve the quality of life in individuals worldwide by teaching, encouraging, building and maintaining full spectrum health in the 21st Century. By honoring the relationship between the physical body, conscious thought, emotional expression, and spiritual development, we seek to teach and encourage responsibility for personal health in all areas.
Prior to her career as a PMS researcher and educator, she served as president of her local public school board and then of her branch of the American Association of University Women.
She currently lives in Colorado.
